The Antminer D3 was a paradigm-shift for the Dash network. Prior to its initial release, we anticipated the massive deviation in hash rate that would ensue with the introduction of ASICs to the network for the first time. The D3 advertised a hash rate of 15 GH/s for the X11 algorithm and immediately realized they could achieve past 17 and 19 GH/s with batches two and three respectively.
Like the L3+, the Antminer D3’s success led to its decline, as the hash rate for X11, the algorithm of the Dash network, couldn’t support the inflated hash rate as mining reward only constitutes 45% of the block reward (another 45% being reserved for master nodes and 10% for the Dash treasury) which led to miners rapidly devaluing. Interesting enough, given the over saturation in the Dash network, the hash rate has actually dropped to a point where mining is once again attractive.

At 1200W, the Antminer D3 is an ideal choice for colocation. This unit performs optimally when using 208, 220 or 240V power sources which are often difficult or impossible to find at residential locations. The miner produces a lot of heat so it is best run in a location with a managed climate.
Bitmain is the leading manufacturer of cryptocurrency mining ASICs. A privately held company headquartered in Beijing, China. Bitmain was founded by Micree Zhan, the first to translate the Bitcoin white-paper into Chinese, and Jihan Wu, the current CEO in 2013.
Bitmain attained early success with the release of the Antminer S5 ad subsequent Antminer S7 which were the miner of choice in the era preceding 2016. The Antminer D3 is the current dash miner of choice for the current mining era (2016-2018). It is estimated that Bitmain made $4B over this period. Bitmain has long dominated the SHA-256, Scrypt, X11, Blake2b, and Cryptonight algorithms.
They also maintain the Antpool mining pool which is one of the largest pools on several cryptocurrency networks. Bitmain mines extensively with their own equipment and pools.
